One of the greatest obstacles that each person needs to overcome is fear.  In order to overcome the force of fear, however, a person needs the power of the Spirit of God, "For He has not given us the spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7)

God gave the children of Israel, the Promised Land, but they had to conquer and subdue it.  However, due to fear, ten of the twelve men who went to check out the land came back and told Moses and the rest of the children of Isreal that, "The people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great... We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we." (Numbers 13:28, 31)  Joshua and Caleb, understanding that they were children of God, and refusing to let fear prvent them from moving forward said, "Let us go up at once, and possess it, for we are well able to OVERCOME it." (Numbers 13:30)

We need a generation of young people who have the mindset of Joshua and Caleb and who believe that they are well able to overcome any opposing force. We need a generation of young people who will take that first step of faith and not allow fear to prevent them from conquering what God has already given them.  God is looking for those who will not just take that step of faith, but those who will continue moving forward towards the heavenly Promised Land.

The 2010 MA/RI District Youth theme is "Overcomers!" The world needs an apostolic generation of young people who will be like Joshua and Caleb and say, "We are well able to Overcome!" (Numbers 13:30)  We need apostolic youth who are confident in their apostolic identity so they can confidently say that they are able to overcome any obstacle and any situation because if God be for us, then who can be against us.
